FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
COJO LAUNCHES SKETCH365.COM
A YEAR LONG CONTEMPORARY ART EXPERIMENT
Philadelphia, PA
Sunday, September 25, 2005
Sketch365.com is Cojo, Art Juggernaut's (Maxim, Vibe, Rolling Stone) year long daily Conceptual Contemporary Art Experiment of "Rendered Quick Thought" visualized from mind to paper in 365-penciled details. A new fully framable one of a kind 8 1/2" x 11" finished original pencil line-art drawing will be uploaded fresh each day to Sketch365.com, counting up from 001 to 365. Each sketch will be immediately available for purchase in a first come first serve basis.
At the conclusion of the year, and the experiment, scans of the original sketches will then be divided by subject, (roughly 35 sketches per subject) compiled, collaged and adapted into ten giant paint on canvas masterpieces. These will then be unveiled (around 6 months after the conclusion of the experiment) at an exclusive VIP Blue Chip Art Collector and Celebrity Studded Invite Only Gala in NYC.
In addition to owning a Cojo Original sketch, sketch owners will receive one official VIP invite to this event per piece purchased.
The experiment was launched on Sunday September 25th, Cojo's 28th birthday, and will run for an entire year (365 days) concluding on September 25th, 2006, on his 29th birthday. Considering he is only creating one sketch a day for an entire year, by purchasing a sketch, collectors will essentially be owning one 24 hour period of the 28 year old artist's creative thought documented in line, smudges, fingerprints, eraser marks, and pressure.
Magazines like Maxim and Rolling Stone pay Cojo thousands of dollars each month to draw pieces of the same quality, using the same materials. He finishes the sketch, inks and colors them in the computer, and e-mails them off for print. The only physical work created outside of the mouse and screen by his actual hand is the sketch, which in his opinion is, "The heart of a drawing."
The beauty of this sketching experiment is that the magazines only own one time print rights of the finished art, they don't get to keep the originals, and they don't even get to touch the actual sketches. This is the first time Cojo is ever selling raw sketches to the open market. This is the first time people will be able to own, frame, and hang his actual hand crafted pencil work. This is the work that gets covered over by brushstroke when he makes a painting so even the people who own his paintings don't actually own his pencil work.
Make no mistake, these are not prints, they are highly rare original one of a kind sketches. Original hand drawn pieces of art. There won't be any prints made of these to be sold in limited edition or otherwise. There will only be 365 sketches in total produced in this experiment. After they sell out there will be no more available to purchase. In Cojo's own words, when asked about the rarity of the sketches:
"The only person I can think of who I have actually sold a pencil drawing to in the past is Busta Rhymes, so if you are one of the only 365 people to own one (or more than one) from this experiment, that's a pretty big deal."
