WHITNEY MUSEUM MEETING 3-19-04

I started the vacation by meeting with my manager Kevon Glickman at The Whitney Museum on Madison Avenue for it's Biennial show. For anyone who doesn't know what the Whitney is it's sort of like the Met's contemporary art friendly little brother.

The line was huge, so we skipped it and walked to a French restaurant for lunch and a big discussion of the artsucks.com launch.

After we sorted that out Kevon split back to Philly, and the rest of the day was spent gallery hopping down in SoHo with fellow artist Ran-D. We hit up a few high priced coffee shops as pit stops between wall-show eyesores. All the while Ran-D worked on figuring out what his plans were for the night and trying to convince his new Danish Girlfriend he met at Josh Clark's birthday party (see JOSH CLARK'S BIRTHDAY PARTY for the whole scoop) to come to a party with us.

Ran-D and I cabbed it back up town to the Whitney later in the day to see the show, and the line was still wrapped around the block. Conveniently enough, we found that it was "pay what you wish" which only happens once a week for like a three hour window, so we waited on line and eventually got in for 30 cents.

Cojo- - a quarter Ran-D- - a nickel

As far as museum shows go, I was not impressed. I walked from room to room thinking, "Wow, I can't believe this guy bullsh*tted his way into the art scene!", or "You know this guy is happy that his stuff is in a Museum, but he can't really be proud of his work, cause it sucks."

What passes for creative is astounding to me. While we looked at these pieces I came up with 10 ideas on the fly for installations that would be 100x cooler than most of the crap we saw in there. Too bad I don't do installations or abstract art, or I'd be a billionaire by now.

If we were allowed to take pictures I would show you some of the crap, but we weren't so I can't.

Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
