THUMB REPAIR 3-1-04
You learn how important the tiniest thing can be when they are gone,
and I know how cliche' it sounds, what the fuck, it's true.
Things that you don't give a damn about, and just take for granted.
This can be talked about in the large scale, like loosing a loved one,
or the ability to walk or see, but I'm talking even smaller.
If you have ever had this happen to you, than you know what I'm
talking about. Have you ever broken a fingernail? I'm not talking
about the end of the nail that you pop beer cans open with, I'm talking about
the base of the nail, down at the cuticle. Which, once broken, gets snagged on
something and eventually rips or falls off to reveal a nasty, puss filled, raw,
bloodied, and exposed nail bed?
When I was packing to move about 6 months ago I bashed my left thumb on
a sharp edge of something or hit it with a knife, I'm not sure exactly how
it happened, but sitting down to watch a movie with Jen I noticed that the
bottom of my thumb nail had a little puncture wound.
It didn't even hurt. I didn't think to bandage it or anything, and while we
were packing I hooked the little rough bit of nail on something and it ripped
a little further. Over the course of a few days it ripped completely off, leaving a pink exposed nail bed. The rest of the nail fell off shortly after. It took about two months to look like it was it on it's way to healing, when the weak nail ripped again. 4 months into it, it's now looking sorta healed. It's almost perfect but it slightly bulges out at the cuticle, I assume 6 more months of growth and it will look exactly like the right nail. Stupid shit like this just drives me nuts.
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
