SHOWBIZ SICKNESS 4-1-04
The day after Eric Finkelman's party I was sick as a dog. The kind of sick that saturates a box of tissues in a few hours. The sick that rubs your nose so raw, it peals like you've got leprosy. The kind of sick that only comes on after you decide to take a vacation.
I was on vacation, or "on holiday" as the British readers would say, and Jen wasn't. So while she was at work, I chilled out in bed nursing a fever and sketching for my paintings whenever I was conscious enough to hold a pencil.
I had a few really dope lucid dreams, and some really weird ones. I remember one in particular where I was having a strange conversation with Philip Seymour Hoffman while I was being molested by that chick from "Not Another Teen Movie." I felt like a tool because I couldn't remember the names of any of the movies he'd been in and was more concerned with that then what the chick was up to.
When I was no longer contagious and the only symptom that remained was an oh-so-sexy emphysema style hacking cough, Jen and I went to see ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. I dug this movie, the same way I dug "BEING JOHN MALKOVICH" which was written by the same dude that wrote this. If you are a fan of Jim Carey, and his ACE VENTURA antics, you will not like this movie, much in the same way Adam Sandler fans don't like PUNCH DRUNK LOVE.
On my road to recovery also I read a great book called "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz, which I highly recommend. Especially if you are into movies like THE SIXTH SENSE. This is a must read.
While sick, I was personally invited by Brantly and Scott to the opening of a new Japanese theme Restaurant/lounge in Chelsea called VELA. If you have never heard of Brantly and Scott, they are big time NYC club promoters who host parties at Lotus, The Park, and Flow. Very chi chi, with lots of Celeb goers-red carpet fashionista etc.etc. And they weren't going to postpone an opening till my head cold cleared up.
Well, I headed into the city totally zonked on Tussin and Ricola, trying to kill what ever was left of my cold. Hip clubs only have an opening once, so I didn't want to miss it. I tipped off Cris AC, (another big time NYC Promoter who threw my Birthday party last year) that I'd be in the city and be able to make it to his Thursday party called "SHOWbiz" at SHOW Nightclub. I arrived and Cris AC was working the door. I chatted it up with him and then chilled inside for a bit, slammed a few Cape Codders at the open bar, nice club, very red and plush, with many landings and secluded areas and lots of security. After I got a nice buzz on, I thanked Cris AC, and split out for the Vela opening.
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
