A MARCH IN MARCH 3-20-04
After viewing the Whitney Museum's Biennial show Ran-D and I shot down to the Virgin Megastore in Union Square to browse through some books, which is always fun. I could feel a cold coming on and was overheating so I stepped outside and sat back-to-the-wall watching a man handing out flyers for a peace march which would be going down the following day. What he was saying was interesting so I took notes:
"100,000 strong march against the war! There is no reason there are 10,000 Iraqi civilians dead in one year! Say no to war! March against the war tomorrow at noon! How many billions of gallons of oil does Bush have to steal before we see an end to this illegal war?"
What struck me as odd about this dude wasn't his style, clothes, or his message. It was that this dude, with his words, was displaying more conviction and passion, than 90% of the paintings I had seen all day.
I was more inspired by this weird dude's energy than thousands of "pieces of art" I'd seen littering the city's most expensive walls.
But that's just me.
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
