BAR CRAWL CONTINUES 7-29-03
So we got to Joe's Pub where my friend, and famous as hell NY DJ, DJ HERBERT was spinning a set before the performer was to go on. Props to Herbert for comping me and my crew at the door. Great set as always Herbert. Herbert, for those of you who don't know, is in the know. He always knows where the party's at, and is always playing the hippest venues. If you want to be on Herbert's lists and updates (funny and informative as well) e-mail him here: djherbert@earthlink.net
My pal and fellow artist RAN-D swung by Joe's pub and bought the whole crew a round. We were already pretty far along because of the Sammy Lights, but we were down for the whole night so we were off to venture on. Props went out to Herbert and we hit the ground buzzin'.
Next stop on the crazy train was McSORLEY'S OLD ALE HOUSE. I love this place, when you really want to pound a few beers quickly and on the cheap, this is where you go. They only sell two types of beer here, light and dark. They are their own brand, Mc Sorley's, and they sell them in twos. It's the oldest bar in New York, and I believe America. It's like a little dark Museum. Well, we all started pounding the beers, and before you know it, we were more drunk then before, which by now was pretty drunk! Once you stop drinking at this place, they kick you out. So we hit the streets again.
Down to the L.E.S. (Lower East Side) where there are a ton of bars that I like to visit. I've spoken of these places in updates before. We went first to ORCHARD on Orchard Street, which was Dead, with a capital D. And due to reconstruction, has lost it's terrarium charm.
Stopped in Bauhaus, but not for long. Bauhaus is very cool, but is the total lounge environment, and not cohesive to getting your groove on, so we next wandered over to Ludlow Street, where the majority of other cool bars lay.
Max fish was our first hit on the street, where we bought a round and chilled back by the pool table, striking up conversations with kids even drunker then us, and treating them like old friends. One of us spilled this weird dude's drink, and he got outraged, I diverted his attention to something else and he forgot that he was ever mad in a blink. We went outside where there were about 30 smokers gabbing it up (thanks to the new no smoking in bars/resturants laws). I noticed a kid I remembered from school, SVA that is. I couldn't remember his name, but Ran-D asked him where the party is they just came from. He gave us some cross streets and off we shot into the night like drunken bottlerockets.
On the way we stumbled into ACE bar, which, was very dead as well. It was a Tuesday so I couldn't hold it against them. They have pool tables and a dart board but nobody was playing any of them tonight. The bar was empty minus a couple losers sitting alone in some stalls. We didn''t even bother buying a round. We hit the bathrooms, then headed out the swinging doors to the direction of the cross streets of the party, mentioned to us by the guy, who went to my school, who's name I never knew, or had long forgotten.
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
