THE BIG LIST OF MOVIES WITH CARTOONISTS AS CHARACTERS 6-12-03

"American Splendor"-2003- Paul Giamatti plays cartoonist Harvey Pekar in the true story of a file clerk working at a Cleveland Veterans hospital, who on the side, struggles to achieve success as a writer of comic books. The film is said to include both dramatic and documentary elements. Haven't seen it..anyone know this movie?

"Ghost world"-2001- 2001 was a good year for bad movies featuring main character cartoonists, athough I dug this one. We spend summer vacation with recent high school graduates Enid (Thora Birch) cartoonist/art hopefull, and Rebecca (Scarlet Johansson). They inflict little tortures on the denizens of urban sprawl, wielding scathing irony as a defense against a "ghost world" full of pop-cultural lemmings and uncertain futures. Jen actually owns this one, I think girls can relate to the teen angst more. I liked it.

"Tomcats"-2001-Cartoonist Michael (Jerry O'Connell) blows $51,000 playing craps, his life is threatened by a mobster who gives him just 30 days to come up with the money. Some funny in this, but not much.

"Monkeybone"- 2001-Brendan Fraser plays a cartoonist on the verge of great success who has a serious accident that leaves him in a coma, he then has some werid crap happen with one of his cartoon characters. This movie is one more in a line of bombs with that annoying box office cursed SNL monkeyboy Chris Kattan.

"Freddy got fingered"-2001-Tom Green plays a cartoonist in his late 20s living in his parents' basement. Makes you wonder why you enjoyed his show in the first place. Don't rent this with a girl, she might not enjoy the scene where Tom Green helps a woman deliver a baby, then procedes to whip the newborn baby around the room like a lasso by it's umbilical cord.

"Chasing AMY"-1997-Ben Affleck plays a cartoonist who falls in love with a lesbian. Another example of how bad an actor this dude is. He can't play a comic book artist, or a comic book character. Stick to just reading comics Ben, give us a break, save the production companies some money, and the viewing public some time.

"Cool World"-1992-Gabriel Byrne plays a cartoonist in who gets drawn into his own sex comic by Kim Basinger's sexpot. Brad Pitt is a cartoon in this too. Ralph Bakshi directs this drivel. Sexy cartoon girls mixing with real life actors... makes you long for the days of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".

"Three Men and a Little Lady"-1990- The three men from three men and a baby are living together raising their daughter, hyjinks insue. Guttenberg is a cartoonist and one of the men. Don't rent this crap.

"Three Men and a Baby"-1988- Three men have to raise a baby, not knowing which one is the father. One happens to be a cartoonist played by Steve Guttenberg. -An embarrasment to cartoonists the world over. Bumbling cop suites you better Stevey.

"CELLAR DWELLER"-1988-Jeffrey Combs plays a cartoonist named Childress whose imagination not only runs away from him but manages to kill him. -Sounds good, wonder if it is, haven't seen it.

"Slamdance"- 1987-Tom Hulce plays a cartoonist who becomes involved with murder, lesbianism and dirty photos. -I haven't seen this either but it sounds like something every cartoonist can relate to.

"One Crazy Summer"-1986-frustrated cartoon prodigy John Cusack tries to woo aspiring singer-songwriter Demi Moore and take on the town's weasely real estate developer and his bullying son in a sailing regatta. -This movie is a classic, Bobcat in a Godzilla outfit will have you rolling.

"Honeymoon Harlots"-1986- Porno-Eric Edwards plays a cartoonist whose artistic creations come to lascivious life in this torrid, fast-paced sexvid.-sounds like more plot then most pornos. Is plot a good thing in a porn film? I dunno, stick to the basics.

"The Hand" -1981- Michael Caine plays a cartoonist who loses his hand in a bizarre accident, then - guess what?? - What? I'm on the edge of my seat. I don't know what but I can assume the hand moves to New York and creates a new pen name, writing and drawing it's own comic strip, while Caine is left behind with his creativity gone. But I could be wrong.

"Condorman"-1981-Michael Crawford stars in a silly film about a comic book cartoonist becoming enmeshed in CIA plot, and getting the chance to become one of his creations. Spoofy superhero fun geared towards youngsters.- Yeah this sounds like it sucks, the fact that I never heard of it, backs that up.

"How to Murder Your Wife"-1965.- Lemmon plays a cartoonist whohas a habit of acting things out before he puts them in his strip." -Humm, start writing porno strips man. Stay away from the horror, mutilation, gross-out comedy that's all the rage.

"Artists and Models"-1955-Martin plays a cartoonist whose ideas are cribbed from Lewis's hijinks, of which there are plenty to choose. I'm guessing this is a classic, although I haven't seen it. But have you seen Lewis recently? I saw him on the daily show, and he's huge...I think he ate Martin!
