LABOR DAY IN LONG ISLAND 9-3-03
On Labor Day I was walking around a mall in Long Island. Is it just me or do you notice that when everyone gets a holiday from labor, they take their hard earned money out of the bank, and dump it right into a Mall? The vacation from earning money somehow computes in Long Islanders minds as a vacation to spend money. Consumerism!!!
Just a weird observation I fell upon when in parking the car, the lots were so full I had to follow customers walking away from the mall in hopes that I could take their spot when they left. That's not so bad, but the fact that I was so desperate I considered bribing them to walk faster, made me wonder if this whole consumerism thing had gone too far.
I spent the weekend in Long Island swimming on the beaches, sitting in the 16 theater cinemas, watching rented DVD's, playing video solitaire, bowling (JEN kicked my ass) walking in the Malls, and basically doing anything that didn't involve drawing.
But people in Long Island are kinda cool for the most part, they are very strong rooted in their beliefs and loyalties. For example, I was in a bathroom at a Chinese Buffet in Long Island this weekend and on the wall was written "If you want to FUCK call 631-###-####, please no Mets Fans." So you see what I mean, they have boundaries.
(I kid, some of my best friends are Long Islanders :) )
While in the mall, I saw my loop bags in Steve Madden. GENTLEMEN (guys have been asking me this forever)- even the DJ BAG was there!! If you want the DJ bag, go to Steve Madden. All of the bags from the season that are currently out are in Steve Madden stores. You can check it on the web, they only have a few of them online, but the stores stock em all, crazy.
I also spotted the small radio bag in HOT TOPIC at the mall. And almost plowed over a teenage girl in the food court wearing my gray bag. INSANE!!!!!!!
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
