ECLECTIC ACOUSTIC SOUL SERIES FOR PEACE 5-24-03
Days after the COMPLEX party, I went to "THE ECLECTIC ACOUSTIC SOUL SERIES FOR PEACE." I was the special guest artist. It was also sponsored by Complex Magazine and Ecko, among others, so I had blow ups of my Complex Magazine comic strips made to about 22 x 26 inches. I did a little stage time- they did a mini interview with me on the mic, then they gave away some Loop bags I designed after the audience answered trivia questions about me, which was weird, but interesting. Met some cool people and got to experience some great music, tons of free magazines, beer, etc.
I also got to experinece something that was weird. Something that I didn't know if it really existed, or if it was a myth. What could I possibly be talking about????
The answer, Christian Rap! Bizarre man! It was weird cause I never heard anything like that. Let me give you a sample:
Song 1: "In the eyes of God" said 20 times in a row to a music bed.
Song 2: "Jesus lives" 20 times in a row, similar music bed.
Third song, classic: " I do it all for you!" 20 times with the random insertion of "G. O. D , I do it all for you! "
After the show the religious rapper who looked like Puff Daddy, who I'd like to call "Priest Daddy" came up to me for some dap.
Other then that, the music was good, the lighting on the other hand, was horrible. This was kinda a bummer for me, cause I had artwork hanging, which nobody could see. They basically backlit the musicians, which, when you backlight anything in a dark room, the light will put the object in silhouette, so we (JEN and I) watched silhouettes of musicians performing. Thanks to Tisha for putting it all together and so much effort in to making it happen. Other then the setbacks (bad lighting, warm beer) it was a really good time. You can't expect every event to go off without a hitch.
