IN LOVE 10-29-00
At night JEN picked me up from train in Long Island. We waited for Dave and Jess (Jen's friend Jessica and her boyfriend Dave), and when they arrived we went to the legendary J & R STEAKHOUSE. I wanted Dave to drive because I wanted Jen and I to be able to get drunk.
We then went to John Michael's Sports Bar to watch Jen's friend Brian's band Verde play a really loud set. All of Jen's coworkers from her bank were there. It was really loud and I was way too over dressed and getting over heated in that packed little joint. We left pretty soon after it started.
All of Jen's co-workers baled early and I talked Dave into helping me talk the girls into leaving. Dave is 27. Jess is 22. Co Workers----Diane, Dale, Jeanine, Lib, Bald Rob . Jess' friends Meghan, Jackie, Jill. Jess's cousin Vickie and her friend.
We then went to 56 Fighter Group, a Long Island dance club, where we only stayed for a drink, I wasn t having it. Latin dance music pounding the walls, and I just wasn't in a dancing mood.
We then went to JILLIANS. We got there at 1:30 AM, it closed at two, I kicked Jen's ass at air hockey and she redeemed herself at virtual bowling. Standing in the cold, we watched a enormously obese guy making out with and feeling up a little waif, and it resembled a bear mauling the kitten. The whole vibe of the room we were waiting in resembled an artificial blues club. The room was obviously modeled after the Blue Note album covers. This is probably how every "blues room" looks in every Jillians around the country. The Starbucks of blues clubs. We got home at 4:30.
Jen woke up 12:30 and made eggs. Went to NISSEQUOGUE, a bird sanctuary in Long Island around 3:30. Bought Subs along the way. We never found the secret cool spot Jen had told me existed there, so I made my own. We climbed down this ledge, through these huge bushes of thorns, ate on the rocks on the shore, examining our wounds.
It was a beautiful day, we lay on a hill overlooking the water, we filmed the sunset, keeping each other warm. The days early on in a relationship are filled in a lovestruck haze, and this was one of them.
I found a piece of white quartz that had a vein of red in it. We decided to keep the rock which resembled a bloody tooth to remember the day by. We opened our subs, and realied they had sand in them.
We watched the clouds, one looked like an arrow, and on the other side of the sky was a cloud shaped like a cartoon heart. The arrow flew across the sky and punctured the heart. They were just clouds, but with the imagination of new love, your mind works wonders.. It's almost like brain damage really.
While we were laying there a family of Yuppies walked through or field of vision. We called them the Jcrew family because they were all dressed-head to toe in Jcrew clothes, like straight out of a Jcrew catalogue. Even the infant had Jcrew scarf and gloves. It makes you want to vomit.
Drove back to Jen's house, looked at her photo albums. Went bowling, the girl who gave us our shoes hit on me, which was surprising, cause she was really dykish. Played 3 games and Jen only got one strike, I only bowled one game over 100. Man I suck.
Went to Applebees, and named every celebrity on the wall behind us. While we ate, some kids tried to steal a wooden cigar Indian in front of the store. (-note, in the months after, I have noticed that the Indian is now chained to the floor)
We took a train back to Manhattan because I was hoping I would have off on Monday, which was Columbus day. I gave her my walkman to listen to but we talked the whole time. Got back 2:00 AM. We watched the movie Boiler Room and ate Chinese food.
Just another day in the life of an Art Juggernaut.
